Packing list for 9 weeks in South East Asia

During our time in South East Asia, we met some people that were interested in what we had packed in our backpacks, as we traveled with only 2 30 L backpacks. Hence, we thought it could be a good idea to share a list of the items we brought, but also, to remind ourselves that we don´t need that much when traveling to these countries.

After the whole previous month traveling in Australia, we realized that we did not use most of the clothes that we had brought along. So, this time we packed light intentionally so that we could:

  1. Avoid checking in bags on flights.
  2. Easily carry the bag around cities.
  3. Use the bag for day trips and hiking trips.

Both of the bags were 30L and weighed 7kg and 10kg. Aside from these bags, we both had foldable bags for touring around the city.

Find below the list of items below, note that there are some items that we would share to make the packs lighter, such as toothpaste, laptop, powerbank, etc…

It is fair to say that we were missing a couple of Items. Had we brought them, it would have made our life more comfortable or save some money :

  • Small inflatable pillows, for travel days
  • Headphones for both of us
  • Computers for both of us
  • Head torches

All in all, we realized that long-term travel does not mean overloaded backpacks. As almost every guesthouse would offer laundry service for 5 AUD (for the both of us), having clothes to last for a whole week was more than enough. As a consequence, we reduced a few headaches, back pain and some money on checked-in baggage.
